XPS Spectra
Cobalt (Co) Compounds
The XPS Spectra section provides raw and processed survey spectra, chemical state spectra, BE values, FWHM values, and overlays of key spectra.
Atom% values from surveys are based on sample, as received, and Scofield cross-sections. Atom% values are corrected for IMFP and PE.
Peak-fits are guides for practical, real-world applications. Peak-fits are not fully optimized or designed to test any theory.

Side-by-Side Comparison of
Cobalt Spectra from
XPS-fitting and The XPS Library

Note:  M. Beisinger issued a warning and a complaint to scientists about the CoO spectra produced by V. Crist 30 years ago saying it was not CoO but rather Co3O4.  Beisinger is correct.  The CoO published by V. Crist in 30 years ago was not pure CoO.  The CoO supplier did not know that their CoO powder was contaminated with a thick layer of Co3O4.  In 2018, V. Crist purchased a single crystal of CoO to produce the correct spectra as shown here and in the International XPS Database website.  There is always the chance that the surface of a “pure” chemical compound supplied by a large chemical maker is actually contaminated. This is the power of XPS.  To avoid such issues, the user is recommended to obtain an XRD of chemical compounds critical to research results.
